Northbrook IL - Rogan Corporation (dba Rogan Molding Technologies), a leader in the custom injection molding industry, and a specialist in the manufacturing of medical products and device components for the health care industry, recognized Manufacturing Day on October 6th with a unique event at its Northbrook, Illinois facility. Rogan welcomed students from nearby Glenbrook North High School to tour its facility, meet with Rogan managers and molding specialists, and learn more about careers in this growing industry.
“This was the second year that we have opened our facility and shared our expertise with these students on Manufacturing Day,” says Pamela Newman, Rogan’s Chief Operating Officer. “We hope doing so will encourage them to consider careers in manufacturing, and in the plastics industry, in particular.”
The event was coordinated by Rogan staff and Mary Kosirog, Glenbrook North’s Career & Technical Education Instructional Supervisor. Attending was a group of 90 Glenbrook North students who are enrolled in the school’s Project Lead the Way–Introduction to Engineering curriculum. They were accompanied by Kosirog and Glenbrook North engineering instructors Jason Berg and Christine Rose.
The day began with introductory comments by Newman and senior Rogan technical managers, and included guided tours of the stages of development of molded products. It culminated in lunch and a question-and-answer session during which students were encouraged to ask Rogan team members about any topics, from technical processes and challenges in designing molded products to career opportunities.
“This was a great opportunity for our students,” says Kosirog. “They enjoyed visiting an active manufacturing facility, and being able to see the wide variety of finished products being produced. They were able to see the different stages of the injection molding process, and were especially interested to learn about the various career paths available to them in manufacturing.”
“Engineering and manufacturing is currently a lucrative career path for young people,” pointed out Jason Berg. “It was valuable for our students to see first-hand the technical processes and precision molding that Rogan does on a daily basis.” Berg and Rose also both observed how important it was for the students to hear directly from the people they interacted with during the event–especially Rogan’s younger team members–how rewarding a career in manufacturing could be for them.
“We were very pleased to hear that,” commented Jim Ritzema, Rogan’s Director of New Product Development. “Our goal is not only to make these visits educational for the students, but also to provide an opportunity for them to explore a potential career. They also give us the opportunity to interest bright young people in joining our team. At the end of the day, everyone benefits.”
Both Rogan and Glenbrook North agreed that the Manufacturing Day event was a great success and will be repeated for future students.
