Rogan Corporation Increases Productivity in Molding Custom and Captive Products with Its New Wittmann Battenfeld 75-Ton Press

Northbrook, IL - Rogan Corporation, a leading injection molder of liquid silicone rubber and thermoplastic medical, industrial and consumer products, has added a new Wittmann Battenfeld VM R 75-ton vertical molding press to its already extensive array of molding presses. The goal of the purchase was to increase the productivity of its molding of smaller custom and captive parts.

“We mold an increasing number of these products, most of which require a smaller shot size than many of our current presses can offer,” says Pamela Newman, Rogan’s Chief Operating Officer. “This new press will help increase our productivity in molding those products and will provide an additional degree of precision molding that many of our customers demand.”

The Wittmann Battenfeld VM R press has a shot size of 3.4 ounces, compared with the 5-ounce shot size of Rogan’s other vertical presses of comparable tonnage. Rogan also has the option of purchasing a smaller (2.36-ounce) or larger (4.62-ounce) barrel from Wittmann Battenfeld if needed. These options offer “plug and play” alterations that will let the press mold an even wider range of product sizes and increase Rogan’s productivity even further.

The VM R features an injection screw diameter of 1.181 inches and a stroke of 5.91 inches, resulting in an injection rate of 6.29 cubic inches per second. When ordering the press, Rogan required it to be able to run hot oil, hot/cold water or K rod heaters for tools. It also specified an upgraded barrel/screw that enables the VM R to run high temperature materials.

The new press has been installed and is currently in operation.
