Heritage

Rogan was founded in Chicago, Illinois in 1934 by brothers Edward, Nicholas, and Julian Rogan. In the early years of Rogan Corporation, it operated as a calligraphy business making books and baptismal, marriage, and confirmation certificates. In 1937, with their business growing, they invented the process of “branding” plastics, also known as hot stamping. Within a few short years this process becomes the industry’s preferred method of marking plastic parts.

With World War II on the horizon, the United States military contracted Rogan to become its only approved hot stamping supplier for plastic parts. The knowledge they gained by marking knobs for the government during the war helped them later when they moved into the custom phenolic molding market by purchasing military surplus compression molding machines. By building on their success from being custom molders in the appliance and connector industries, Rogan outgrew its production facility in Chicago and makes its first move to a larger plant in Skokie, Illinois.

The 1950’s and 1960’s brought more changes to Rogan as it moved toward more injection molded parts for new applications. Due to lower costs and faster cycle times, injection molding became the choice of many of Rogan’s customers. During this period Rogan also became one of the first companies to successfully use the insert molding process to make plastic products with metal inserts molded directly into them.

After a second move in 1972 to the current production facility in the Chicago suburb of Northbrook, the 1980’s saw Rogan become one of their first manufacturers in the country to start making knobs using the two-shot injection molding method. In multi-shot injection molding, a product is first molded in one half of the mold cavity then rotated in the same mold and a second shot of material is molded onto the original shot. This allowed Rogan to shoot certain polymers on to a harder plastic to make the Pure-TouchTM line of knobs.

Recently, in addition to the molding processes it has already mastered, Rogan has moved toward silicone molding and has quickly became a leader in the field by producing parts for the medical industry and other sensitive applications. Rogan is also an industry leader when it comes to bondable LSR. By molding liquid silicone directly onto plastic or metal parts, a tight bond can be created for a variety of applications.

The Rogan mission is to provide premier injection molded multi-shot plastic and liquid silicone rubber products.
